View Full Version : I must be cursed

I posted some more pictures today and replied on some threads to some nice feedback from fellow members. I also edited a story I posted. Now those pictures, replies, and editing are gone. I also the noticed the number of views on the counter had gone done rather than up.

What's going on? Was there another system overload and data purge?

Please warn us in the future if you know this is going to happen so we don't waste time posting things that will be removed in the near future.

I can see from a posting in the picture forum that DaveDax also had the same problem today. I'm sorry for you darling. I know how it feels.

A concerned member,

Jill :(

We are getting yet another new server to handle the massive amounts of traffic and bandwidth this site generates.

I can warn you on which day it is going to occur that is about the best I can do. Moving an entire server is a large process and its very hard for me to tell you the exact momemnt at which we are throwing the switch to the new server.

In the case of today unless someone screwed up, that I don't know about yet you shouldn't have lost more then a few minutes worth of posts. Moving gigs of data without taking the server down is not easy.

If everyone would rather I can easily shut the site down and then perform the switch so you don't have to worry about losing any posts but then you will not be able to access the site. Personally I figured people would rather not lose access to the site but feel free to cast your vote.

My vote is for downtime with no lost post--with advance notice of when you are going to turn off the AI switch

I say downtime is better than loss of posts anyday. Just give some advance notice.

on this one. Downtime and not being able to contact friends and family for a short period of time is better than losing something that friends have worked so hard on.

I vote for downtime. It makes the upgrade quicker & safer, and in the long run, causes less trouble for admin and members. Just give us some notice if possible.

Since I started this thread I guess I should also vote. It seems very obvious to me that the members who take the time to post feel that what they post is worthy of viewing. Therefore having it randomly deleted is quite upsetting. Therefore I also vote that a brief shutdown to perform the required maintanence would be best. It would be even better if a warning could be posted informing the members when such system maintance will be performed.

Thank you Tiger for aleays responding to the members.

I haven't been here long, and don't have anything yet to post (can't say I know where or how to get anything to post, or how to post if I did) but I know that I would rather have the site shut down than have anyone lose posts.

My vote is to shut'er down with advance notice then put it back up on the new server.

I agree with the concensus of this poll as of yet i have lost no posts but shutting down and moving it with notice is the best just not on the week end because some times it is lonly

I only hope that the gremlins stop messin' with jill999...or she'll stop posting altogether! That really would be a loss for this forum.

If, IF! I say, none of the men wear speedos, then I'll buy the drinks. :D

HEY, I'm all for running around naked and FREE drinks......and to the topic of this thread, having a scheduled shut down seems to be the best answer to the problem. I, for one, haven't posted anything yet, but if I did I surely wouldn't want it deleted because of server problems.

SO, I add my vote to SHUT IT DOWN, get it running tip-top, and let the good post roll

Damn OMG8, I was going to wear a nice pair of black spandex racing speedos, but ya spoiled it for me. And it would've shown off my nicely formed flat butt, too.
:omfg :D :roflmao

But since, everyone's gonna run around nekkid, I'll do it if the ladies run around nekkid, too!

BTW, a temporary shutdown is a good idea (and if you can back up recent posts, that's a good idea, too). Do it on a weekday, when everyone's at work. ;)
