I recently saw a documentary called American Swing all about this New York sex club in the 70's and 80's called Plato's Retreat. Great documentary, I highly recommend it. But there's this quick little piece of an interview with one of the former club members that said there were even some brothers and sisters that had sex there. There was a little pause after she said that and then she said "That just wasn't as taboo back then." This was way before my time so I was wondering if any of the older members on here could tell me if that's true. Was it not as big of a deal back then?

I have no personal knowledge of Plato's, but I was around then and I did some research. It was a swingers club in a town with 9 million people. Couples only (Male and Female) It wouldn't be surprising is someone took their sibling, maybe not to have sex with but just to get in the door. They could have sex anywhere if they wanted so why go to a special place.
Incest has and always will be around. Its just not talked about much until the law gets involved.
I have more personal knowledge of the late 60's. My little sis/grandfather, sis/her friend and friends father, sis/another friend and a neighboring farmer, sis/her stepbrother. It was looked down on but there was not as much law enforcement involved. If it happened today there would be men in prison. Its amazing how much sex a young girl could get into, I have to think it wasn't just accidental on her part. How do I know these things, young girls talk too much. She finally figured out to keep quite about it, We never would have known about the step brother but she got pregnant at 16 then married him.

I believe it's a sign of the times. The media wasn't as nosey then as they are now, Journalism and journalists in general were respected members of society that you could trust mostly to tell the truth, without being the way they are now, where they will do whatever it takes to search out a story. Not saying it's not right to delve deep into a story of possible sex abuse, but rather, the TMZ's & National Enquirer's of the world. Rag mags, that'll print/show anything they want, true or not, to sell copies, or bring in ratings, and especially money.
Back in those days (I was born in the mid 60's) things were hushed up. if not just kept in the family, then in confession to priests, which is kind of ironic when you think about it. Often times, the most moral acting people in public are the most "immoral" in private.
I agree that it wouldn't fly these day's, many swinger's club that exist today are so far underground, there's probably no way to know if there are family members having sex with each other, the way it may have been in the 70's. Remember, the 70's were a decade of extravagance, decadence, etc. Almost anything went, after the late 60's and the summer of love. At least until the early 80's.
Chances are, yes it did happen as it still does and as Iowa Guy said, always will happen.

That definitely makes sense that back then people, all people, were less nosy. Especially in smaller towns where the people/police, rightfully so, figured it was a victimless crime despite whether they approved or not. I imagine if HIV and AIDS had never became a problem the religious groups would have never had a foothold and been able to re-sexually repress society in every way they could. We might be living in a much more tolerant world today if it wasn't for that. Thanks for the comments!

I am aware of family sex as far back as the 40's. Family sex was tolerated, because if someone told, the bread winner [father] would have put in jail, leaving the family no source of income. The taboo of incest was more treatable than the taboo of no money.

Incest was indeed common in the 1940s and 1950s when I was in grade school and high school, maybe it was because of the farm and country school environment. Not only did my brothers and I bang our only sister, but in our parochial school of ~40 kids, a girl friend, my sis and I knew of at least 8 or more of us were involved in sibling incest by the time we entered high school. In one family two brothers were doing two of their sisters, and one of them had a baby before she graduated. We never did know which brother was the father. For a while I went with a girl in my class who f_ucked her two brothers. Farm country high schools were small in those days rarely more than 40 kids grades 9-12.
We did not learn of dad/dau sex in those days, but it was probably less common then sibling incest. Dad/dau incest may be more common today as blended families, divorce, etc. makes it easier to accomplish.
Certainly the legal environment today makes it much more important for incest relations to be discreet and secret if at all possible.

I know back in the late 70's and early 80's it was kept a secret in the family. We were caught by our neighbor and somehow our parents found out and after all of the bs they sent me to therapy with the church minister. All I got out of that was that when I wanted to fuck my sister I should jerk off. I must want to fuck her alot. I think it's nobody's business what goes on as long as all parties agree and know what is going on.

My brother and I went to swingers parties as a couple many times. Most of the time no one had any idea we were siblings. Some times though, people did know and it only made things all the better and they always liked to watch us. We always thought it was a good way to meet other incest couples.

In the 70's it started to be less accepted, as the era of "free love" was coming to an end. The economy and foreign conflicts took up most of the media, but you still heard of some incest being punished. The 80's brought the end to the law looking the other way, as people starting setting up the officers, and if things were not reported, they were dismissed. That is why society is how it is now. Before, if you were underage and got caught drinking, they jsut took your beer and followed you home. Now, if they do that, they don't know if someone is setting them up, and it could cost them their job... so they almost HAVE to report stuff.... sad, but is how life has evolved....
jmo of course....
